Hi Birders,
I am interested in what is being said. I have now
been to see the Kentish Plover twice, once on 18/2 (1530 hrs) & then again
on 23/2 (700hrs), both visits at high tide and on each occasion the bird was at
the same location and on each occasion there were 2-4 scopes and we looked at
all birds present, although we did not see the Greater Sand Plover as reported
by some. We only saw one Kentish Plover.
The bird that I drew into my note book resembled a
combination of "c" and "j" from Shorebirds. Overall it looked like "c" but the
supercilium was not as pronounce, more like "j" but it did have the dark patch
below and behind the eye, but unlike"j" it did not have any rufous tinge on the
nape. On 23/2, we could see a slight brown mark, about 2 mm wide that seemed to
connected the nape to back, ie so that the collar did not go all the way,
but from other angles this was not noticeable at all. The legs
were dark, greenish black. Seen at different angles and in different light this
could still be the same bird seen and described by both David Siems and Mike
Carter!
