Dear Messrs, Taylor and Woodford and all involved with
the building, running, maintenance and contribuitions
to this list. It really is the world's best and it
looks like we still have hope eh? this is my reply
back to a newcomer Paul Hackett .... I think we still
need a few more newcomers though! eh? this list is
better then cheddar cheese and pome army hardtack
bikkies.

Many most sincere thanks,

G'day Paul,

Many most sincere thanks to you Paul. I've raised and
helped out as best I can over many many years, many
wild birds both here in Oz and in the UK. I first
became involved in this type of work whilst in the UK
army and helped out with oiled birds from the "Torrey
Canyon" disaster.

When I first got these two TF's I thought they were in
shock? after what I was told about the end of one of
the adults and knowing they mate for life. I did ask
my local wires people for fast info but this website
seems to have given me all I now need, at present, so
many most sincere thanks to you.

Hi John,

This is my first post to this group.

In that case Paul a warm welcome aboard.

Your quesstion regarding the Tawny Frogmouth got my
interest so I did a bit of seaching.

According to the W.I.R.E.S website the male and female
share feeding duties as well as incubation and
guarding the nest.

Normally they do a fine job unless introduced species
are around their area.

It did not mention however whether the male would take
over full feeding duties in the event of the females
death.

Yep, that is what I was really after? the total
feeding duties but many thanks all the same.

If you need this information urgently I believe
W.I.R.E.S. has a 24 hour hotline.

Yep Paul ... it's WIRES RESCUE on
Sydney 8977 3333
Country 1800 641 188
A nice one eight hundred number eh?

The page I found this info on is

 www.wires.au.com/animals/twnyfrog.htm

I hope this helps cheers, Paul Hackett.

G'day All,

Would anyone on the world's best list know if it is
the male or female Tawny Frogmouth that fulfills the
role of feeding a single young?

If say the female adult TF met with a sad ending, then
would the male automatically take over the role of
raising the young? has it ever been known to be the
reverse? the young is a 3 to 4 month old ball of
fluff?
