The site of the breeding Painted Snipe at Hope Island (SE Qld), has suffered
some minor damage, sometime, during the last two days. Some "equipment" has
been driven through it. The damage is minor but the noise and vibration may
have driven the birds away. Would anyone who sees the Painted Snipe during
the next few days please let me know immediately?

If further damage occurs, I will be going to court next week to take out an
injunction against those who are perpetrating this illegal act. The
relevant Government departments, Federal and State as well as the local
council have been informed and action is being taken. The destruction is in
breach of the Environment Protection Bio-diversity Act which specifies
penalties of up to $5.5 million.

The purpose of this posting is to let everyone know what is happening and to
get you ready for what may be a fight against developers or, even, the local
council. If you wish to let the council know how strongly you feel about
the issue, send them an e-mail mentioning Salt Water Park (aka Oyster Park).
will make sure it reaches the right people.

TIA

Terry Pacey
(now out of retirement whether he likes it or not)
