Went to the wetland at Banrock Station early this morning after two Aus
Bitterns were reported to me from there. At the exact spot they were supposedly
seen I flushed two immature Nankeen Night-herons (there you go Trevor H.,
another river Murray site for you).
Still, a brilliant morning, though cold, and lots of birdlife up close from the
hide, including Gull-billed and Caspian Tern, Aus Shoveler, Pink-eared Duck,
Spotted Crake, Little Eagle, Regent Parrot.
Yesterday a Freckled Duck at the Waikerie effluent ponds and a report of around
10 Frecklers at Lake Merreti near Renmark. Also a report of Aus Bitterns at
Tolderol GR (they are more likely to be true to label - no trees there fore
night herons).
