Gold Coast Ramblings

Acting on advice of Bruce Roubin (of Sydney, how embarrassing!) three of us
went to Hope Island today to look for Painted Snipe. At least one pair with
young were sighted along with many Latham's Snipe. Glossy Ibis were also
seen, a rather rare visitor to the Gold Coast.

Earlier this week, a single Wandering Whistling Duck was seen at Coombabah.
Bruce saw a single bird at Palm Beach over the Australia Day weekend. I
wonder if it could be the same bird?

More on the arson attack of the Coombabah boardwalk. It appears that the
boardwalk was constructed with timber treated with CCA. This means that
there is concentrated arsenic in the residue (ash) which is partly soluble
and may damage the surrounding wetlands when it rains unless it is cleaned
up immediately. Some of the suggestions as to the punishment for these
"people" seem mild now.
