The Freckled ducks are still
at Mount Annan Botanical Gardens,
latest sighting 1pm Friday 25th Jan.

The ducks have been there for a week and we
( Jill Dark, Lynda Holmes and myself)
saw them for extended periods this morning.

They were in the upper of the two lakes,
Lake Fitzpatrick and very easily found
and observed from the pathway.

Interestingly, turning around to view the other lake
gave us sightings of a Rat, a Mole, a Weasel and a Toad.

The ducks seemed not to care
that they were sharing their lakes
with a school holiday production of Wind in the Willows,
but birders planning to visit tomorrow should be aware
there are Aussie Day celebrations planned,
complete with a bush band.

Who knows what effect
a little flag-waving patriotic fervour
will have on the ducks and they may be
thinking about finding another "safe haven"
or at least keeping their heads down.

But well worth the trip
for a chance to see these great birds
and nice to find the Rangers at Mt Annan
well aware of them.
