I have always been interested in the Mynas around Brisbane as I was always
concerned that they would start spreading south. I have never seen them
around Murwillumbah, and I don't recall seeing them on the Gold Coast
(though that could just be missing the blaring obvious, which I can
occassionally do). However, this summer I drove through the Border Loop and
saw many Mynas around Beaudesert. Hopefully they stay up north, though they
seem to spreading north quicker and quicker (they were to the west of
Harrington in December 2000) and I guess they will eventually populate all
urban areas along the NSW coast one day.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi All,
I have a similar story to Colin's. Mynas were first reported on the
Sunshine Coast immediately to the north (say 70km) of Brisbane, about 4
years ago (I remember it was April 1st, and Chris Smith saw the first
pair.). Now there is a steady population, and flocks considered big here
are about 25 birds. I know that is peanuts to people down south, but
that's no comfort to us.
Cheers,
Jill
