Hi all,

Went for a walk down Chiltern Trail in Ingleside, on Sydney's Northern
Beaches, this morning. The heath birds were exceptionally quiet, nothing
worth mentioning on this august list.

However as I was driving out along Chiltern Rd. I noticed two largish black
birds on a power line. "Didn't look like ravens" I said to myself as I
backed up. Sure enough they weren't! they were Glossy Black Cockatoos! Only
my third sighting of GBC on the Northern Beaches.

The surroundings were part heath, part urban with nary a suitable casuarina
for them to feed on. Obviously they had been driven out of more suitable
habitat by our recent bush fires.

I remember during the 1994 fires we had birds like Grey Goshawks around
home, again, I suspect, displaced by fires.

Bruce.
