still small flocks of fork-tailed swifts above Cairns Northern Beaches this
weekend - numbers don't seem to be large but often there when you look up

Gooday birding-aussers and Mark,
Friday 28 December 2001 18.15
Newlands Coal Mine 21 11 34S 147 53 13E Cloudy cool weather with only a
slight NW breeze.
Large flock of Fork-tailed Swifts 100+ travelling in a southerly direction.
Some birds were flying low while others were mere dots in the sky high above
the majority of the flock.
To give an indication of height some birds were still only dots when I had
the glasses on them.
Difficult to get a good estimate as we had just finished loading the train
and on my way back to the loco.
