Several people have been posting various nets about their first bird of
2002, and I thought I would share my last bird of 2001. As I was walking
to my cousin's New Year's Eve Party at Guerilla Bay on the NSW South Coast,
I heard a soft rasping call. Shining my torch into the treees overhead, I
was delighted to see two Southern Boobooks.
On another matter, my wife and I were walking along the dirt road south of
Broulee when I heard and saw a Scarlet Honeyeater. I realised that I
hadn't heard any at our house at Guerilla Bay over the preceding week.
They are normally fairly common around Christmas. Can anyone else comment
on their abundance?
