G'day all

I took Niven McRie (Darwin) and the local Rob Drummond out to Lake
Linlithgow (20k east of Hamilton, western Victoria) on Sunday. Just a
quick visit but, as usual, something of interest. We turned up 6-10
Freckled Duck on a small swamp to the south of the lake. A single
Glossy Ibis was on Krause Swamp to the east and a small flock (~20) of
Banded Stilts on Lake Kennedy to the west. See my website for a map of
these places.

Just back from a few days in Heidelberg (northern Melbourne suburb) for
Christmas. Indian Mynah's and Spotted Turtle-doves everywhere. My
daughter gave me a present of Tim Low's "Feral Future - The untold story
of Australia's exotic invaders". A bit depressing for Christmas reading
but I recommend it to all on birding-aus.

I also received the excellent Menkhorst and Knight "Field guide to the
Mammals of Australia". Also recommended.

Cheers
