Christmas Day reached a max. of 41 degrees on our verandah,
today we hit 42. When it was cool around 10am yesterday (only 36) heard an
unusual call followed by a brief glimpse of a small black and white bird flying
away down into gully. Racked the fried brain-cells and settled on Varied Triller
but wasn't happy . Lo and behold, ho ho ho, back it flys, flitters around top of
Scrub Turpentine, then drops to eye-level, settles about 3 metres away. Mad
scramble for binos, and there it is White-eared
Monarch.
Not a
tick, but first sighting in Bridge Creek Valley in 7 years here, and only 3rd
ever sighting.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the fires. How have Carol Probets and
Michael Hunter fared? Any news?
