I am at Murwillumbah (far northern NSW) for Christmas and as usual went for
a quick visit to Mebbin NP yesterday. The usual suspects (Wompoo Fruit-Dove,
Pale-yellow Robin, Spectacled Monarch, etc.)were all present even though the
weather was in the high 30's and the wind was picking up.
I visit Mebbin in the vain hope of tracking down Black-breasted
Button-quail, as it is one of the last places I know that it has been
recorded in NSW. I have had a quick look in the birding-aus archives and the
only sights with regular sightings are Inskip Point and Yarraman SF, both
north of Brisbane which I won't have time to visit. Does anyone know of any
sites south of Brisbane, perhaps behind the Gold Coast, where there is a
possibility of seeing them? I am not real hopeful, but might get the odd
record. Otherwise I'll have to wait and head north of Brisbane one day.
Thanks in advance and have a good Christmas.
Cheers,
Peter
