Hi Everyone,
A quick look at high tide along the Cairns Esplanade this morning was
rewarded with a great array of waders at close range, the majority being
Great Knot (a couple of Red Knot mixed in) and Black-tailed Godwit. Of
interest was a flock of 35 Whiskered Tern which flew in briefly, landed and
then flew off in the direction of the "Beach" at the southern end. Several
were showing breeding condition with black on their bellies. I've only
previously seen 1 or 2 Whiskered Tern here on a very few occasions. The
"Beach" is now a good spot for terns and gulls along with the pelicans at
the moment as it is fenced off from people whilst the retaining wall is
completed.
Cheers,
Keith.
