Hi,
Many of you would remember discussions from over a year ago about a Green
Catbird
in Victoria, while this record has not been accepted, there is a possibility of
it being confirmed at a camp starting on the 26th of December, 2001. Plus the
opportunities to see many other birds. The Field Naturalists Club of Victoria
are holding a camp at Goolengook, the details of which are below and you can
contact me for further details and directions.

This year, Field Naturalist Club survey at Christmas / New Years, is being held
at Goolengook in East Gippsland.

Goolengook is infamous, as Australia?s longest running continuous forest rescue
operation at over 5 years. However more importantly it contains flora and
fauna
populations, that have been described as globally significant and having a
combination of significant biological values that are not known from any other
forest block in South East Australia. Even with these considerations, the area
is still under threat from logging.

Goolengook is also one of two locations in Victoria, where cool and warm
temperate rainforests overlap. The area also contains large areas of emergent
rainforest, and old growth forest. It supports the largest and highest quality
populations of the nationally rare Slender Tree Fern, supports and provides
habitat for the Long-footed Potaroo and also supports and provides habitat for
the Sooty and Powerful Owls and the Spot-tailed Quoll (all seen in the area by
the author). It is known to be a rich bird site.

The camp will provide opportunities for flora and fauna surveys, for all of the
above species, plus the many other species known to be in this magnificent
forest. Plus a great chance to camp in a wonderful part of Victoria.

If your interested in attending contact Paul Jones on 0427 100 119 or email
 for further information and directions.

Please feel free to forward this email onto other interested parties
Paul.
