Hi Birders,
I undertook two surveys at Ash Island, Hunter
Estuary NSW this week and the highlights included:
4 Swamp Harriers patrolling the Ash Island ponds on
4/12/01
A Ruddy Turnstone on the Duck Pond on 4/12/01, seen
in late November as well.
477 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers on 4/12 with lesser
numbers on 7/12/01.
36 Marsh Sandpipers on 4/12 and 28 on
7/12/01.
4 Bar-shouldered Doves along the railway track on
7/12/01.
The highlight however was the two adult Banded
Stilts feeding with Black-winged Stilts on the Duck Pond, however the immature
Banded Stilt seen on 30/11/01 was not located.
On the way back to the Central Coast today (7/12),
we (Carole & John Carpenter and myself) stopped to check out Pambalong
Swamp, Stockrington and were delighted to see 14 Glossy Ibis including two
birds in stunning breeding plumage, along with some Latham's Snipe, a
Yellow-billed Spoonbill and a Collared Sparrowhawk amongst the usual
suspects.
