Hi there, I had a quite remarkable day birding with Bill Jolly, a local bird-guide from the Lockyer Valley. South East QLD, on the 15th of Nov 2001. Highlights, among many others, were 2 Painted Snipes on a lagoon between Gatton and Toowoomba, and a small party of Plum-headed Finches at one of the many creek-crossings with suitable habitat. The Painted Snipes were at the same location of the sighting of 20 birds of this species a few weeks earlier. If you wish to contact Bill, here is his e-mail address: In case you didn't know, Danny Rogers is working on a survey of Painted Snipe, and he is kindly asking for reports of any (new and old) sightings of this species which is not well known and understood in Australia. Here is his e-mail address: Happy Birding, Jonny Schoenjahn Broome WA |
