Just back from a great 4 days fauna surveying at Calperum Station, a part of
the Bookmark Biosphere reserve about 80kms northish of Renmark. A great
spot that borders Gluepot and is a testament to the hard work of all
involved with its running, not least the local landcarers, especially Doug
Holly and Lizzie - great fun and great birders. If anyone is heading that
way and gets a chance to visit this lovely Mallee reserve it highly
recommended. Some of the more exciting birds included:
Malleefowl, Red-lored Whistler, Gilbert's Whistler, Major Mitchell's
Cockatiel, Grey-fronted Honeyeater, Shy Heathwren, Redthroat, Black-eared
Miner, White-winged Fairy Wren, Peregrine Falcon, Striated Grasswren,
Chestnut Crowned Babblers and Chestnut Quail Thrush.
Plus Bolam's Mouse, Common Dunnart and Mallee Ningaui added to my mammal
list.
A good few days!
