2001 Rufous Scrub-bird
Surveys
Volunteers - we need your
help!
Why a survey?
From 1999-2000 the NSW National Parks
and Wildlife Service (NPWS) commissioned Birds Australia to conduct surveys
for the Rufous Scrub-bird (Atrichornis rufescens) in north-east NSW.
The surveys have been part of a long term (5-year) monitoring program designed
to assess the abundance of the species in the World Heritage National Parks of
north-eastern NSW.
Following the success of the surveys over the past two years,
this seasons surveys are about to commence. Volunteers are required to assist us
in the surveys being conducted in the Barrington Tops and Border Ranges National
Parks. The surveys are a great opportunity for volunteers to assist in the
conservation of this rare and cryptic species in some of the most beautiful
World Heritage rainforests of the east coast of NSW. Also a great opportunity to
camp out and see some of the rarer rainforest birds, mammals and plants that
occur in those regions.
