Something different from Snipe & twitcherthons (frankly I'm in awe of anyone
with the stamina to see 200+ birds in such a short period). No Alan I don't
think your getting too old (Mum would kill me).Last week we had some
visitors from UK staying who were very pleased to add 100 lifers for their
weeks efforts. Highlights for them were a pair of Barking Owls at Fogg Dam
plus a Tawny Frogmouth and very large Water Python. A Cicadabird in our
backgarden which we occassionally hear but rarely see. They also managed to
find a White Bellied Cuckoo Shrikes nest within 10 metres of our house
complete with young that we didn't know existed.
The cruise on Yellow Waters at sunset added lots of birds with comparitively
little effort in the build up heat. They thought the numbers of raptors we
have particularly kites was bizarre, and if they saw the same numbers at
home it would have to be some sort of sign from above.
Amazingly it was on their last day before they saw a Sulphur Crested
Cockatoo a very exciting moment for them. We also had a look at the flocks
of Little Curlews here at the present but getting less every day as they
disperse, amazing how well they blend in until they move. Busy breeding
season at home at the moment with Red Winged Parrots, Red Tailed Black
Cockatoo, Blue faced Honeyeater and Grey Butcherbirds all with young.
