Over Winter it was lots of sightings of Gang Gang Cockies, into Spring it seems that there are heaps of Black-tailed Native-hens, right across Victoria and loads of Rufous Songlarks in the mallee (as well as a couple at Werribee).  The Rufous Songlarks have especially been reported in the last couple of weeks from Hattah and Wyperfeld.  It's great to be able to recognise such trends through Birdline.

Another Blue Star Contributor this week is awarded to Steve Clark.  Steve knows all about what is happening with avifauna of south western Victoria, whether it is rare birds or just the annual movement of birds.  Thanks for your input Steve.

A male Painted Snipe was seen at Banyule Flats in Heidelberg on the edges of a small pool at the northern end of the swamp, thanks Gina Hopkins.

20 October
A male Orange Chat was seen at Griffith's Island, Port Fairy on the rocky beach about 500m west of lighthouse, thanks Steve Clark.

20 October
The first Noisy Friarbirds of the season are arriving in East Gippsland, with one being seen at Providence Ponds, east of Stratford, thanks Duncan Fraser.

14 October
A pair of Turquoise Parrots were seen at the Box-Ironbark rally at Paddys Ranges State Park, thanks Debra Saxon-Campbell.

14 October
A White-browed Treecreeper was seen within 300 metres of the (southern or main) entrance gate to the park in unusual habitat - Black box/Moonah woodland in Wyperfeld National Park, thanks Peter Lansley.

13 October
A return trip to Werribee Sewage Farm resulted in 104 species for Tania Ireton, including notably 1 Common Tern, 8 Grey Plover, 3 Red Knot, 1 Whimbrel and 2 Bar-tailed Godwit at The Spit and a Crested Shrike-tit at the corner of Farm Road and 160 South Road.

13 October
A male Sacred Kingfisher was observed in suburban West Brunswick, a mere 4 kilometres from the Melbourne GPO! thanks Jan & Alan Flack.

12 October
A Ruddy Turnstone was seen near the Cafe at Rickets Point, Beaumaris, thanks Alex Farias.

10 October
In a flock of Woodswallows at least one Masked Woodswallow was seen a couple of kilometres south ofHamilton, thanks Steve Clark.

9 October
A trip to the Werribee Treatment Plant revealed 3 Blue-winged Parrots, 3 Freckled Ducks (on Lake Borrie South) and a Great-crested Grebe (on Little River), thanks Tania Ireton.

9 October
A Grey Goshawk and 2 Black-chinned Honeyeaters were seen at the You Yangs Regional Park, thanks Tania Ireton.

9 October
A Black-tailed Native-hen was seen at Port Fairy, on the edge of a small swamp near Griffith Island, thanks Steve Clark.

8 October
A productive trip to Hattah-Kulkyne N.P. netted a Striped Honeyeater along with a Black-eared Cuckoo, a Great-crested Grebe, 2 Crested Bellbirds, large numbers of Black-tailed Native-hens, Black-winged Stilts, Red-necked Avocets & 6 White-browed Woodswallows, thanks Trevor Hampel.

7 October
A Bush-stone Curlew nest was found near Nathalia, with two eggs in it, thanks Barrie Lindsay.

7 October
Another Gang Gang Cockatoo in Brighton, at the Golf Course, feeding in Sugar Gums. These records are very late for Bayside Melbourne, thanks Michael Norris.

7 October
A White-winged Triller was seen in a Pittosporum in alane behind Roseneath St, Clifton Hill, thanks Neville Pamment.

6 October
A Painted Honeyeater was seen at Paddy Ranges, near Maryborough, thanks Jan Flack.

Early October
A Malleefowl was seen on the Nowingi Track at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, thanks Alastair Smith.
