Jon,

Interestingly, I have seen Orange bellieds at Werribee on three occasions and each time they were feeding in (and this is where my ignorance regarding botany shows) the 1-2m high sparsely yellow flowering "weed" that grows all around the sewage ponds.  They were right in amongst it feeding.  Is this related to your "weed dependence theory" ?

Regards,

Paul

Hi, I read in Tim Low's excellent "Feral Future" that Orange-bellied Parrots are
weed dependent.  Could anyone let me know:

1) which weeds do they depend on; and

2) why (ie for food, shelter etc?)

I'm not subscribed to the list at work so could you reply to me direct please,

Many thanks

Jon Hall
