Thanks everyone for your messages of concern, but my iBook is OK and hasn't succumbed to a virus or a dead battery. It just resets to 1904 if it crashes (not that macs ever do that of course). Our web proxy is a PC - now that's more of a worry if it's sending incorrect date headers 8~ ( Sorry if I caused some mail sorting problems!
