Dear Birding Aus folk,
Had a very enjoyable weekend near Maryborough (approx
130 km NW of Melbourne, Vic) on October 6/7 despite
cool and showery weather both days.
We?d gone up to attend the VNPA Box-Ironbark
rally/camp, which you?ll be pleased to hear attracted
a large crowd, many of whom camped overnight. We found
the workshops with various experts very informative
and can only hope that the big attendance helps
promote the cause of woodland preservation to our
politicians!
We of course managed to squeeze in a few hours birding
over the weekend, the highlight of which had to be
seeing four special birds within about 100 metres of
each other, namely:
Black-chinned Honeyeater (small group)
Hooded Robin (pair)
Crested Bellbird (female)
And last but certainly not least?.
Painted Honeyeater.
Other interesting birds seen were:
Little Cuckoo-shrike
White-winged Triller
Painted Buttonquail.
All the above were seen just south of Paddys Ranges
and form only part of our total list which was fifty
species. Not too shabby for a short time spent in bad
weather.
