I was at Hattah last Easter. We saw Mallee Emu-wren (and Striated
Grasswren) there. This may be the same site as Michael Hunter, but in
case it isn't then it is worth putting on the record.
I wasn't driving so I don't have the precise location. But as you leave
the information centre and drive back towards the store, you get to a T
junction (not the T junction close to the store). There is a sign posted
marked circular walking trail just before this T junction that is very
easy to walk around. I recommend fairly early before the general public
gets there. We saw MEWs just at the start (walking clockwise) where there
is a gentle rise in the path, and about 1/3 of the way around where you
are close to the main road. The Striated Grasswrens were about the
furthest part of the walk away from the start about half way around. Just
walk very slowly and listen for wren calls and approach quietly.
