Hello all

After watching the comings and goings of the large local Pied Currawong
population I was heartened to hear yesterday, 30/9/01 the raucous call of
the first Channelbill Cuckoo of Spring in my area . There should be no
shortage of opportunities for enterprising Channelbills given the Pied
Currawongs sitting already . Late yesterday afternoon I watched at least
seven or eight P C's hawking for insects flying high up over a valley
closing their wings and descending in a series of diving and swerving swoops
almost to the treetops then repeating it. It was odd to see so many of them
using the same technique. On the still evening air you could hear the clack
of their beaks although it was not apparent just what they were catching .
