Spent some time birding in the Cooroy area on Qld.'s Sunshine
Coast yesterday. Cooroy is about 20km west of Noosa but retains a Qld. country
feel. Birded at Lake MacDonald initially, also known as the Noosa Botanical
Gardens. Got a total of 40 species in 2 hours with the best being two
Latham's Snipe, Jacana, and a single Rufous Night
Heron. Others of interest were Royal Spoonbill , Australian
Grebe with 3 young. Surprised by the lack of ducks, only saw
Pacific Black Duck and Hardhead, not even Wood
Duck. The water treatment works adjacent added heaps of Scarlet
Honeyeater and a Rufous Whistler.
Moved onto a wetland on the Noosa Rd. about
3 km east of Cooroy, near Fig Tree Lane. In just 20 mins.saw 23 species, all but
one (Brown Honeyeater) waterbirds. This wetland had both
Royal and Yellow-billed Spoonbill,around 12
Jacana ,5 Darter, and a solitary
Glossy Ibis.
A relaxing time and far better than visiting the nearby Eumundi Markets
( although their local lager is terrific , on a par with Cooper's of
Adelaide)
