I think yesterday(Tues),or the day before there was a message from
someone who had found a bird in her house and wished to identify it.
Unfortunately someone cleared out the inbox before I could reply direct,
so I hope she'll find this - I'm sure the bird was a Shining Bronze
Cuckoo.
The honeyeater-type curved beak, peacock-green wings and zebra-striped
breast make this as certain as a hearsay ID can be. (I recall being very
very puzzled by my first Horsfield Bronze-cuckoo, a long time ago,
and wondering if it was a new honeyeater). However the feet would not
have resembled a honeyeater's 3+1 toe arrangement, but been more 2+2
like a parrot's.
Lots of Shining, Horsfield and Fantailed Cuckoos around this spring but
I haven't seen any this year yet.
