This morning a group of Birds Qld members went for a a wander around the
Minnippi Parklands in Brisbane's eastern suburbs. This area contains a
small shallow lake, some mowed picnic areas, an area of bushland and is
bounded by Bulimba Creek and the Gateway Road.
Sixty-four species were seen including Baillon's Crake, Buff-banded
Rail, Lathams Snipe, Black-fronted and Red-kneed Dotterels which are all
a bit unusual. The rest were made up of about equal parts bush and
water birds. Today were there a number of regulars missing including
Black-winged Kite, Straw-necked and Glossy Ibis, and a couple of ducks.
Visitors to Brisbane who have limited time will find a two hour visit
worthwhile. the park is accessible via Wynnum and Greystone roads.
Peter.
