Although its not bird-related, I thought a few people might be interested
in one solution for Bob's problem.  The search engine Google
(http://www.google.com/) keeps cached copies of web pages.

If you urgently need a web page which is temporarily unavailable or
recently removed, a copy can often be found in Google's cache.

For example, a copy of one the pages Bob seeks can be found at:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:www2.deakin.edu.au/aqua_sci/threatsp/fauna.html
[ it has e-mail addresses for the creators]

I believe quite a few web site creators have found this useful, when their
lovingly-created web pages have been accidentally removed and they didn't
have backups.
