Sydney/Canberra/central NSW birders

This weekend is the second of the three official 2001 survey weekends aimed at long term monitoring of the Regent Honeyeater population in the Capertee Valley.  Thirteen fixed sites are surveyed in August, September and October each year to arrive at an index of Regent Honeyeater numbers in the valley.  Last month Regents were recorded on seven of the thirteen survey sites as well as other locations in the valley.

Due to an apparent mix-up by the organisers of this months surveys it remains uncertain if there will be sufficient people to carry out this weekends surveys.  If you live within easy distance from the Capertee Valley (2.5 hours from Sydney, 3.5 hours from Newcastle, 5 hours from Canberra) and have this weekend free you would be most welcome to come along and help out.  Regent Honeyeaters are guaranteed.  As the surveys are to be completed by 11AM each morning there is also plenty of opportunity for other birding, although a lot of the Capertee Valley "specials" are likely on the survey sites.

Accommodation is available (paid by the organisers) at Grove Cottage on Goollooinboin Station in the valley.  Please reply directly to me if you are able to assist.

Cheers
