Hello All,
Just a quick note on Black Kites.
We have only the odd sighting of
them around Bundaberg...nearly always
single birds.
However ,out at our tip recently,
at least 20 are
hawking and scavenging.
I've seen this many times up north ...
...sometimes hundreds for instance
at Mackay Harbour tip earlier this
year.
How do they know where the action is?
How far will they travel to scavenge?
What did they do before these artificial food
sources existed?
Is this behaviour leading to population increases
similar to
tip ibises ,crows etc?
How do they go so unnoticed here and suddenly
there's dozens?
We had only our second Spectactled Monarch
recorded in our garden yesterday.
........A welcome return!
Bill
