After never seeing White Necked Herons in SE Qld, only out West a couple of times around Currawinya NP, I have seen three in the last two weekends.  A pair feeding by the roadside near Jacobs Well (just south of Brisbane) the weekend before last, an adult and a juvenile.  They did not mind me doing a couple of U turns when forced to move on by traffic behind me (no where to pull off the road) so I had very good sightings of them standing, and then flying.

This weekend I sighted another by the Bruce Highway near Caloundra.

Amazing what you find when you are not actually looking.
