For a community project in a small NSW country town, our local Flora and Fauna trustees would first leaflet the locals e.g. "We will be live-trapping feral cats in bushland surrounding the village from x date. Could you please make sure your pet has an identification collar and bells so that we can return your pet if it is trapped. All other cats will be destroyed." The leaflet drop was done as a public education campaign, to make people aware that cats kill wildlife. Most of the cats we caught were huge ferals. Even local cat owners were happy about our methods and always co-operated with collar and bells.
