Double doored traps have the trigger mechanism in the middle of the
trap with the bait; the trigger releases both doors.  See the

This is the website of the Feral Cat Coalition in San Diego, which
includes details on how to trap feral cats (for neutering/spaying
and release.)

Obviously Australia isn't the only country with a feral cat problem.
