Hi all,
Yesterday (Tuesday) I did my Regent Honeyeater and Swift Parrot survey in
the Winsor area, about 60K. west of Sydney. This is the 2nd. or 3rd. year I
have been doing some of the sites in this area and the first time I have had
any luck, a single Regent Honeyeater at Londonderry. Londonderry is a small
settlement about 10K. south of Winsor where Swifties And Regents turned up
several years ago. There was some Mugga Ironbark flowering in the vacant
block opposite the shopping centre which appeared not to be attracting any
birds at all. The Regent flew across the road just as I was leaving (lucky
eh?!)so I followed it up as it flew from place to place calling continuously
but, again, not feeding. Then I lost track of it and didn't see or hear it
again despite trudging the few streets of Londonderry for a further 3/4
hour. (In the end I gave up and decided to leave as the locals were starting
to give me funny looks, probably debating if they should call the cops!)
There were some other nice birds around however, a single Banded Lapwing on
it's nest in the paddock on the corner of Cornwallis Rd. and Cornwells lane,
Lowlands. Also a Glossy Ibis and more Little Grassbirds than I have seen for
some time at Mc.Graths Hill Sewerage Treatment Works. There were some
Scarlet Honeyeaters in Castlereigh Nature Reserve.
David, survey sheets to follow.
