Hello Birding-ausers,
I've just begun a new position with NSW NPWS in western NSW. As part of
this position I am looking into the biodiversity existing in the two
bioregions named Riverina and Cobar Peneplain. The Riverina bioregion
stretches from approximately Balranald north to Ivanhoe and then down
through Griffith to the Murray River. The Cobar Peneplain stretches from
approximately Hillston up west of Cobar and up to Louth, then up to Bourke.
From here it extends down through approximately Nyngan past Condobolin and
down towards Griffith.
I am particularly interested to hear from people who might have experience
(flora or fauna- although obviously I'm interested in birds) in these
areas. Any observations or trip lists that people may have made within
these areas would be great to see. I'm also interested in people's opinions
on conservation issues or even just good birdwatching spots.
If anyone could suggest any potentially good contacts (ie with fauna or
flora knowledge about the area) relevant to the Cobar Peneplain area I'd be
very interested to hear about them. Riverina also but I'm particularly
short on contacts within the Cobar Peneplain. This could include people who
reside in the area or just those who have visited the area to have a good
knowledge of it. Obviously there are many people that aren't on Birding-aus!
This might be a good chance to get up on a soapbox!
Cheers,
Mick Todd
