Hi Carla,
Have spent a lot of time identifying this bird and we're pretty sure it's a Topknot rather than a Crested. Too big for Crested and colouring is different. Climate is just a tad cooler (about 1 or 2 degrees) than Cairns etc., although it's not always as humid.

We have rainforest pockets quite close and, as I mentioned, most of the acreages here have been turned into rainforest gardens by the residents.

See my earlier posting to Trevor, for the whereabouts of Tannum Sands. It is on all roadmaps of Queensland, and in most southern tourist brochures, according to the many southern tourists who come each year.
Smiles,
Lesley

Hi,

I also have heard many people call Crested Pigeons, Topknot Pigeons and the
two are really nothing alike.
Also the Top Knot is much larger at 40-46cm while the Crested is only
31-35cm.  Where abouts is Tannum Sands?
Do you live near rainforest?

Carla
