Jennysk appears to have recorded Striated Fieldwrens (Calamanthus fuliginosus)
for the first time on Phillip Island in Western Port Bay.

The Atlas of Victorian Wildlife has no records of the species on the island but
it is recorded all around the bay and at a single locality at the northern end
of French Island. I wonder whether birdos don't get into suitable habitat for
the species to record them there for these two islands?

Elsewhere they are recorded all along the Victorian coast and in much of far
western Victoria. Emison et al. (1987) gives the following information (in
part) about this species in Victoria:

'Calamanthus inhabit treeless samphire shrublands, wet sedgelands, wet heaths
and adjacent lightly grazed pastures and are most common along the coast.'

I encourage Jenny to forward her observations to the Birds Australia Atlas so
this can be reported.
