Hi Duncan et al
You said "Four Gang Gangs in our garden this morning feasting on
Sawfly caterpillars in a Manna gum. I became aware of their
presence by the strong smell of eucalyptus coming from the
grubs."
Very interesting. But where did you see them ? Somewhere in
East Gippsland ?
I was checking some this morning. There were 3-4 below the Sugar
Gum where I first recorded some on the Brighton Golf Course (SE
Melbourne) on 28/4/01. So they have been here for exactly 13
weeks after I first saw them there.
I've checked quite a few gums in the last 3 days and most have
no fruit, but there are some Spotted Gums (I think) which have
some fruit and the ground under the Sugar Gums is about 50%
covered by nuts.
Explains why the Gang-gangs are here and not there ???
