The information that follows can be found in:
The Gang-gang Cockatoo in Field and In Aviary
1995, L.E. Chambers, Victorian Ornithological
Research Group.
The chapter on breeding makes reference to Gang-gangs
nesting high in tree cavities. Reports of nests at
heights 60-70 ft from the ground and 20-30 m from the
ground.
They are said to prefer horizontal hollows in "some
lateral branch where a certain amount of light can
penetrate".
The hollow is frequently 1 to 2 m deep with the bottom
lined with small wood chips and wood dust. Another
measurement of a hole was 2ft 6 inches deep and
10 inches in diameter.
In captivity the best nest logs were found to be
approx. 60cm long and 20 to 23 cm in diameter with
an inspection hole in the side. These were hung
at either an angle or vertically - both seem to work.
