So someone says "an introduced bird that
has decimated native species in southeast Australia" Whatever does this
mean? Decimation (killing 10% of the population) has almost no impact on natural
populations, unless it is done repeatedly (for example several times per year).
"Decimation" is used as an ignorant substitute for
"Devastation". The spread of this species is of concern. Even so, it
is very difficult to demonstrate conclusively with real data, a cause and effect
that this species has the bad impact it is credited with, even though casual
observation strongly suggests it.

ENVIRONMENT authorities fear the Indian mynah - an
introduced bird that has decimated native species in southeast Australia
