Hello all,
The three species of oystercatchers currently recognised on the 'Australian'
list were once again to be seen together at Pelican Park on the Redcliffe
Peninsular north of Brisbane at high-tide 4/7/01.
Pied Oystercatcher Haematopus longirostris approx 12
Sooty Oysteratcher H. fuliginosus 1 only
South Island Pied Oystercatcher H.finschi 1 only
This is the fourth time this year that I have seen a Sooty Oystercatcher (always
only 1) at this location.
And the second time I have seen all three species together there.
The South Island Pied Oystercatcher has now been in this area for over 3 months
and there is still a very good chance of seeing this bird along with a flock of
up to 30 Pied Oystercatchers on the boat-ramp rock-wall during high-tide.
