A short report of a few interesting sightings around Melbourne this week - June
30 - July 1
Pale-headed Rosella
Royal Park - almost certainly an escapee, and almost certainly from the Zoo.
Azure Kingfisher
Yarra Bend Park, near Kane's Bridge, along the Macfarlene Walk. Uncommon this
close to Melbourne. The Nankeen Night Heron have also returned to their roost.
A range of birds were looking for nesting holes, including Wood Duck.
Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters
Paid a short visit to the Organ Pipes National Park - and was delightfully
surprised to find that the Spiny-cheeked HE was the most conspicuous bird in
the park! Also Fan-tailed Cuckoo and plenty of Robin.
Golden-headed Cisticola and Little Grassbird
Banyule Wetlands - quite apart from a plethora of water birds, numerous
Golden-headed Cisticola and Little Grassbird were present. Not particularly
uncommon, but always pleasant to see.
