G'day birders,
And can't you all hear the disappointment in my voice!! I failed miserably
again in my search for the Grey Falcon at Kow Swamp, northern Victoria. Spent
five hours driving around the general area with no luck. Saw plenty of Brown
Falcon, Whistling Kite, Australian Kestrel, Black-shouldered Kite, Little Eagle
and a Peregrine.
Re-visited the site where Chris Coleborn and I saw the Double-banded Plovers
last Thursday. I was equipped with a scope this time and counted 17
Double-bands (4 of which were still in breeding plumage - magnificent!), 43
Red-capped Plovers, 4 Black-fronteds, 300 Black Swans, 100 Aust. Shelduck, 30
Grey Teal, 40 Masked Lapwing, 4 Richard's Pipit and 6 Magpie-lark. There could
well have been more Double-bands. Some were resting, crouched low in the green
grass, whilst others were actively foraging and bathing in shallow water.
Cheers,
Chris
