Following Graham Turner's comments about large numbers of Red-necked Avocets
at Kooragang, it is perhaps noteworthy that the grapevine has reported just
one avocet at Lake Clarendon in the Lockyer Valley last Sunday (27th May).

Ken McKeown had led the Toowoomba Bird Observers search for Swift Parrots on
the escarpment in the morning, and a small group of birders continued down
into the valley for the afternoon.

Red-necked Avocets were hereabouts in numbers about eighteen months ago, but
I haven't seen any myself since then. I'll visit their previous hangouts
over the next week or so and report back.
