G'day birders,
Just a brief report from a quick visit to Kow Swamp, northern Victoria, in
search of the elusive Grey Falcon, that Russel Woodford's father has recently
seen.
Chris Coleborn and I visited the area on Thursday afternoon, driving around the
perimeter of the swamp, seeing several other raptors including Brown Falcon,
Peregrine Falcon, Australian Hobby, Whistling Kite, Black-shouldered Kite and
Australian Kestrel, but no Grey Falcon.
What was interesting though was the sighting of at least 10 Double-banded
Plovers (probably lots more) feeding in grassy flooded paddocks on the west side
of Kow Swamp, amongst large numbers of Black Swan, Australian Shelduck and
Masked Lapwing.
I intend to re-visit the site tomorrow, with the hope of catching a glimpse of a
Grey Falcon!!
Cheers,
Chris
