G'day everyone,
Thanks to Alex Appleman I have now been receiving mail for about two months and
although I have sent emails to some of you privately. Think that it is about
time that I contribute to the list. So here goes.
Toonpan is one of Townsville's birders top spots,
as a morning spent out there can produce all sorts and a list of anywhere
from 50 -? the highest for me has been 80 species.
It seems that each time you go out something
different turns up.My last visit was on May 13th and as usual produced some
exciting birds for around here.
Almost as soon as we arrived the place was alive
with Grey Fantails having just this month arrived from southern
regions. There were also about 12 Black-chinned Honeyeaters. Restless
Flycatcher was the next bird to catch our eye. With Yellow-billed Spoonbill and
Australian Pratincole also moving in. A new bird for the list was Lemon-bellied
Flycatcher taking our complete list for the area to 170 species.
There are still some young Black Swans to be seen
plus lots of Ducks - Wood, Black, Wandering Whistling, & Hardhead.
Heaps of Cotton Pygmy Geese and Coots although the last two are a long way
out.
For our morning
effort we spotted 76 species.
