Subject: Peaceful Dove distribution (Vic.)
David Cameron notes a record of the Paeceful Dove (Geopelia placida) from
Hamilton sw Victoria.
The Atlas of Victorian Wildlife has a few old records (1970s) for the species
from the far south end of the Grampians and more recently from just south of
Edenhope. The south west/coastal part of the state has only a single record
from Portland from before 1970. David's observation is indeed a recent and
certainly one of the more southerly records for Peaceful Doves in this part of
the state. Peaceful Doves are more often recorded north of the above inland
localities.
I encourage David to send the details to the Atlas so this can be properly
recorded.
