Hi all,
Just returned from Norfolk Island and in the process of putting together a
full trip report but a few people may be interested in this one now.
1 adult male Chaffinch on Phillip Island off Norfolk on the 4th and 5th of
this month i.e. three days ago. The bird was seen well on the 4th at about
5pm perched and on the ground halfway up the Mt on Phillip Island (6km off
Norfolk Is). It was generally flighty and didn't allow approaches closer
than 40m. On the 5th it was seen briefly in flight at 7am further up the Mt
and then again in the pm at about 4pm back at the site it had been seen at
the day before. Apparently Chaffinch has not been seen before on Norfolk
(only other records are some from Lord Howe several years ago). Seen by
myself and Brent Stevenson.
Cheers
Rohan
